SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, July 9, 2013 - This 4th of July, Berry Aviation (BAI) chose to celebrate in true patriotic fashion by sponsoring a Wounded Warrior Project benefit event, the Freedom Slalom Fest. The event brought awareness to the Wounded Warrior Project attracting more than 400 supporters and raising over $21,000 in donations.
Hosted at the Berry’s home on a private waterski lake, Utopia River Ranch, the event featured a Professional/Amateur Slalom Ski Tournament during the day, drawing over 40 contestants, an evening BBQ picnic, a live music performance by the Spazmatics, and a grand finale fireworks show.
“We were very pleased with the event, we had over 400 guests all coming together to show their support for our heroic veterans who have been wounded while defending this great nation,” said Sonny Berry, President and CEO of BAI. “Working as a Department of Defense airlift support contractor since 1987, BAI wanted to do something special to give back to the service men and women we support and work alongside with throughout the world,” added Mr. Berry.
The slalom ski tournament featured world-class skiing resulting in 3 new records. In the Open Women’s Division, Regina Jaquess set a new pending world record. Lori Krueger and Eileen Berry set new South Central Regional Records in the Women’s 3 and Women’s 5 age groups. Once approved, all of these performances will go into the record books and stand until broken.
“I would like to thank everyone again for coming out and showing your support for such an important cause. Because of your generous involvement, a $20,000 donation will be made to the Wounded Warrior Project to ensure this generation is the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation’s history,” said Mr. Berry.
